3. Interpretation/Conclusion

This, like the many other images on the Treaty of Versailles, seems to be addressed to the people of the countries involved. It gives them a taste of how it went down in the Versailles castle with the world leaders.

To conclude, this photograph is a important piece to the Treaty of Versialles and what it did. It gathered many world leaders together to defeat one common ennemy, the Germans.

1. Identification

My Image is about the the Big Four of WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles. The Four Powers consisted of Woodrow Wilson (American President), George Clemenceau (French Prime Minister), David Lloyd George (Brittish Prime Minister) and Vittorio Orlando (Italien Prime MInister). These four men dominated the peace conference, imposing their view as for Germany’s punishment. This is a famous black and white photography of the four major powers present at the peace conference. It is being taken at the Versailles castle, where the treaty was being written and signed. Because of this particuler picture, it is difficult to say what the genre is.

2. Description

Basically, this is just one of the many images/paintings/photagraphies of the peace conferenece and the signing of the peace treaty (Treaty of Versailles). In the photograph, the four men, Orlando, Lloyd George, Clemenceau and Wilson (From left to right) are gathered in a room and are taken a photo of. We can see the type of clothes they saw as “formal” with all of they being in all black. This is interrestign because in today’s world, you basically only where black when there’s a funeral. We could suggest that they were wearing all black to commemorate all the lives lost. We also see the importants in books, with the countless number of books that are behind the Big Four. As far as the painting is concerned, we could say that the light source is coming from the camera itself, because we see the light in their faces. It also seems like the only source of light which could lead one to think that there wasn’t that much light in that particuler room. What also intrigues me is that they all seem to be posing for the pictures. Ths is the only picture we have with the four powers staring straight at the camera. This leaves me to question if they were finished signing the treaty or not. I doubt they would pose for a photo in the middle of they peace conference of signing of the treaty. With that in mind, they still have very solemn face expressions. However, their body language sends a different message. Besides Mr. Wilson, everyone looks pretty laid back in their (most likely) comfortable chairs.
